Is it just me or she looks like Billie Eilish. Portrait of a lady on fire is one of the most deepest, thought provoking and beautiful films that have been put to screen this year. There were many artistic choices made throughout the film such as, removing the score, that really worked in the benefit of the film. It made the scenes feel more honest and vulnerable at times as the film depends on great acting and a fantastic screenplay to make you feel something without the score. This film executes that exceptionally well. The two lead actresses: Adele Haenel and Noemie Merlant give two powerful performances, and are some of the most memorable this year. The screenplay is so superb it has to be one of best written this year, it is so deep that you will most likely be thinking about all the connections the film makes even days after watching. Certain shots and cinematography are also of the highest standard giving us some of the most beautiful shots i have ever seen.
While this movie is fantastic it does have one glaring flaw and that is the film does start off very slowly to the point I was quite unengaged in the beginning, however once the film picks up its momentum it becomes amazing in every sense of the word.
Celine Schiamma gave excellent direction to one of the best films this year: I believe Portrait of a Lady on Fire is one of the best foreign language films of all time and will be something that will be studied many years from now due to the fantastic performances, direction, cinematography and screen writing. This is also one of if not the best film I have seen at the Brisbane International Film Festival so far.

Beautiful editing! You're amazing. Thanks for this. Depuis peu j'aime beaucoup ecouter Adèle pour son contenu mais aussi sa forme. Elle a une reflexion philosophique et psychologique sur sa pratique artistique toujours en lien avec des interrogations personnelles engageantes. Et il y a cette prise en compte dans sa reflexion des differentes dimensions. C'est un exercice cérébrale qui demande une grande energie et qui s'exprime naturellement dans sa pratique artistique. Elle va au delà, elle creuse plutot que de repondre simplement ou jouer tel quel au 1er abord. En cela je la trouve vraiment captivante et j'aimerai tellement ecouter plus d'interview de type débats. Elle a une justesse et une maturité dans ses propos qui amène aussi à nous interroger plutôt qu'à simplement ecouter. Elle invite au débat, nous ne sommes pas seulement que dans la transmission avec elle. C'est mon point de vu personnel mais c'est super enrichissant et nourrissant. Mais aussi frustrant car j'aimerai aussi lui poser des questions et échanger et partager avec elle. C'est frustrant. Bref pour faire court : veritable orgasme cérébrale.

Noémie Merlant is now my number one crush after seeing this.
